No More Mistakes

The journey from her home to the Lincolns took no less than two hours. When the Rolls Royce entered the grand Lincoln mansion and pulled up in the garage, the old butler stepped out of the car first. He stood arrogantly at the top of the porch and ordered, "You can come out."

Hailey looked at the man who was putting on airs around her. He had been like that in her past life too, but she had always endured it to avoid troubling her parents. However, she never imagined that in the hearts of her parents, whom she regarded as everything, she wasn't even on the same level as a servant.

Hailey took a gentle breath. She needed to stay calm. It wasn't the time to lose her temper.

She walked behind the butler as he strode haughtily, behaving as though he were the owner of the house. Hailey's lips curved into a smirk when she saw this, and she didn't bother to pick up her luggage that he had left on the ground.

If she wanted to improve things from the past, she had to start by not allowing mistreatment from undeserving people. She followed him into the main living room.

Inside the large and luxurious room, four people were already seated. Hailey didn't need anyone to tell her who they were. Her father, Bernard Lincoln, was seated on a single sofa in the center of the room, and on a two-seater sofa, two women were also seated.

The older woman was Leah, Hailey's stepmother, and the other lady was the one person she would never forget—Cassidy. That seemingly innocent and gentle face had managed to fool her for years. Seeing her again after all the suffering she had endured in her past life because of her, Hailey had the urge to pounce on her and tear her apart.

But she knew she had to act rationally. She was still weaker than Cassidy and wouldn't be able to get her revenge... yet.

Hailey looked at the last person. It was her stepbrother, Conan. She was surprised to see him there. He didn't have much presence in her previous life, and she never expected to come across him. In fact, she couldn't remember if he was present on this day in her previous life.

"Sister, you're here," a soft yet vibrant voice brought Hailey back to her senses.

She saw that Cassidy had already stood up and walked over to her. She reached out to hold Hailey's arms, but Hailey skillfully avoided her, warily watching her every move.

Cassidy didn't seem to care. She smiled widely at Hailey. "Oh, you don't know me, sis. I am Cassidy. I'm your sister."

"I've heard a lot about you, sister," Cassidy continued excitedly. "I heard you came from the countryside. How pitiful. I feel very guilty enjoying it here while you were suffering in that dump."

Hailey didn't react. Instead, she remained cautious as she looked at Cassidy, watching for any signs of foul play. And sure enough, a leopard would never change its spots. When Cassidy thought Hailey wasn't looking, she glanced over at her with disdain and contempt in her gaze.

Hailey took a breath. She almost fell for Cassidy's unusual act of kindness. It seemed she had to be careful. In this life, Cassidy seemed to be even better at playing games than in her past life.

Their father, Bernard, was displeased to see that Hailey didn't pay attention to Cassidy and treated her as if she were air. He scowled, "Can't you answer when you're being greeted? Such ill manners."

His gaze was unfriendly, and

if Hailey didn't know better, she would think he wasn't even her father.

Almost immediately, her stepmother, Leah, spoke gently, "Honey, calm down. Don't be so harsh to the poor girl. She has only just arrived and probably isn't used to us."

"Not used, my foot. Isn't it basic courtesy to be respectful to others?" he sneered. "What would one expect from someone like her anyway?"

He clicked his tongue and shook his head. "Come to think of it, if I had known she would have such bad character, would I have worked hard and gotten her such a good marriage?"

Leah immediately gasped, looking panicky. "Hubby, not now..."

"What?" He snorted. "She would have to know anyway."

"But she just returned."

Bernard sat up, looking at Hailey seriously. He hadn't even spoken yet, but Hailey could already tell that what he was about to say wouldn't be good.

Her mind raced through the events of her past life that she could remember. She was sure nothing like this happened.

"Do you know the Rothschild family?" her father asked.

Before she could even utter a word in reply, Cassidy cut in. "I don't think sister knows, Daddy. How about you let me explain it to her?"

She was up to no good again.

Their father shook his head. "No need." He looked at Hailey. "Just know that they are a very influential and prominent family in this city. I managed to arrange a marriage for you with one of their sons. You should be thankful."

Hailey was stunned for a moment.

That definitely didn't happen in her past life. No marriage was forced upon her like this. Why was everything going off track?

"Say something, will you?" Bernard scolded when he noticed her silence.

"Calm down, Hubby."

"Look at her!" He scolded angrily. "She's already twenty, and she doesn't even have a degree. She's lucky that someone is willing to marry her."

Hailey felt a panic attack coming on. It wasn't supposed to be like this.

But she wasn't going to wait until things got out of hand. She knew how the Lincoln family worked, and she wasn't going to wait until she was abducted and forced into marriage.

Immediately, she turned around to leave. Her revenge could wait. For now, she had to try to understand why the plot had changed.

"Seize her!" Bernard yelled from behind.

Before Hailey knew it, two pairs of strong hands grabbed her. It was then she remembered that they always had hidden bodyguards stationed around the house.

They dragged her back in, and this time, Hailey found herself locked up in one of the guest rooms.
