Chapter 17: E-motions

Since Lois dropped me off, I’ve been feeling low and defeated. Right now I’m staring at my phone because I can’t believe Scarlett called me.

Getting turned down or rejected isn’t something that happens to me frequently. I had already imagined that Scarlett would approve of me and I would start working as her butler immediately. But the shock after she told Lois she could not was enormous.

Lois apologized. I told her there was no need for her to apologize to me because Scarlett had a choice. We can’t force her to employ someone she sees as trouble. Sadly, that’s how she sees me.

Lois only meant well for her friend. She wanted me close to her to watch over her for fear that whoever is killing the Andersons will get to her too. If Lois knew about my ill intentions towards her friend she wouldn’t want me going an inch near Scarlett.

Five minutes ago, my phone rang, blaring to life. I couldn’t tell who was calling until I picked up the phone, then I froze.
