With a harsh "smack," the man slapped her, sending her sprawling to the ground.

Miriam, filled with rage, tried to retaliate, but Clifton impatiently shoved her aside.

In the ensuing chaos, Miriam's head struck the corner of a table, and blood began to pool from the back of her head.
