40. A Bloody Trial

★ELAINE'S POV★

The bright morning sun was high in the cloudless blue sky, flashing in rays through the slightly parted curtains on my half-closed eyelids.

Fluttering my eyelashes open, I smiled when the memories of what transpired last night between Adrian and me surged to the forefront of my brain. Wanting more of his warmth, I tried to move closer to him and snuggle up close, but all I met was a cold, empty space.

Did he leave early this morning? I thought to myself.

Just then my mind wandered to Delta Logan. I became frantic, just thinking of how he could still be laying in the pool of his blood. Without further ado, I slipped into my night robe and made for the door. At that moment, my door flung open and Tania dashed in.

She engulfed me in a tight hug and I was startled for a moment.

“I'm still angry with you for the way you treated me, but I have no one to go to, Elaine.” Her voice cracked with tears.

“Why? What's wrong?" I asked out of concern.
