“Tell me,” I lick my lips, nodding. “Why did you have to lie to Rense?”

He doesn’t answer. I could tell from the way he was holding the steering wheel that he was seething with anger. A fit of anger that I don’t quite understand. Was he mad that I forced him to pick me up? Had I called at an awkward time and he had a meeting with a rich investor? Because that was the only reason that I could think of that made sense.

Obviously, if he was angry because he felt jealous over Rense, then he needed a good whack on the head.

He started chuckling darkly, confusing me. “You know, we’re bound by the contract. The one you made me sign, remember that piece of paper?”
