Chapter 66: Carmela is in the past

The sun had begun to set, and the evening light was streaming through the kitchen window.

Max was busy preparing dinner, when he heard the front door open and close. He turned, a smile on his face, as he saw Nichole walk into the room.

"Hey!" he said, his tone warm and friendly. "I thought you were still angry at me.”

Nichole let out a small laugh, her eyes sparkling. "I figured it would be of no use to do so," she said, her tone playful.

"Okay, I’m making dinner," Max said, a small smile on his face. "You're my fiancée, and you live here. Wanna join me?”

Nichole let out a small huff, her lips pursed in annoyance.

"You're not yourself anymore," she said, her voice sounding a little annoyed. "Ever since Carmela came to live here, you've been different. You used to call me every time you were going to cook. Now, you just do it without asking. What's going on?"

“I’m calling you now..” Max sighed, the smile on his face fading. "You have nothing to worry about," he said, his tone gentle.
