Chapter 2: Sign the Divorce Papers

Crystal’s POV

I put down my phone and stepped on the accelerator. The flow of traffic today was bearable than the last few days. Maybe because the holidays were finally over, and people had gone to their normal routine. As I waited for the red light to turn green, I saw the huge LED screen on a building playing the news.

[Reporter: Hot issue! Star model, Snow Ivory, was seen with an unknown man, who was said to have visited the shooting location of her debut drama. With the HD quality of the circulating photo, many speculated that the man must be the secret lover of the model. On the other hand, the model had yet to make a statement about this news.]

I pulled my gaze away from the screen. It was the same picture Cody sent me. What did I even expect? Being in an arranged marriage, it wasn’t surprising that he went to look for another woman as soon as he arrived in the country rather than his wife. Such is life.

Creak~

As I opened the front door, I could hear the giggles coming from the kitchen.

‘He brought the model to our house?’

I silently walked toward the kitchen, and voila! Two people happily laughing at each other with no care for the world.

“What was so funny?”

“Right now, you looked like the same old you. I’ve been missing that.”

“Was I that different now?”

“You’re asking me that? Come on, Oliver. You just changed when we drifted apart and had to marry your wife.”

“Crystal? What’s she got to do with you laughing?”

The woman – precisely Snow Ivory – leaned on the edge of the table and crossed her arms as she watched Oliver busily cooking the food. Guessing by its aroma, it must be some kind of meat, and her favorite.

They had yet to notice me standing by the door.

“It’s really funny. You were supposed to marry me, but you were left with no choice but to marry her. You must have felt devastated.”

Oliver didn’t speak for a moment, but I could feel that he didn’t have the intention to rebut her words. But this is actually better. I don’t have to be so conscious about asking him for a divorce. Now that it has come to this, I should urge him to sign the papers as soon as possible. After that, I could finally lose this bothersome title above my head – ‘Mrs Chent, Oliver’s wife’.

I pushed open the door and walked in, grabbing the nearest glass and pouring in water. I could see how shocked they were. This is my house, so I have every right to walk in without the need to tell them.

“So you’re here, Mrs Chent,” Snow said, raising her eyebrows and the corners of her mouth.

I looked at her and drank the water in one gulp.

“Mr Oliver, I would want to propose something to you. Would you be willing to listen to me?”

I turned to Oliver, who was now serving the food on the plates. There were two but there were three people here. Guess I wasn’t included in the count.

“You didn’t even listen to me this morning, and now you’ll propose something out of the blue?”

“I can assure you that you’ll love this proposal.”

“How so?”

“Here.”

From my bag, I pulled out the brown envelope and handed it to him. Oliver suspiciously looked at me.

“So here’s the proposal. Sign that paper and you’ll get both this property with its title, and the woman of your life. How does that sound?”

Oliver tilted his head, “What is this all about? Why will I sign – divorce?”

I nodded my head. I inadvertently saw Snow snickered on the side. I don’t have the energy to deal with her so I ignored her.

Oliver rashly read the contents of the documents and narrowed his eyebrows at me.

“Crystal, what is the meaning of this?”

“You know you shouldn’t be asking that. Remember the prenuptial agreement we signed before the wedding? It was clearly stated there that you and I cannot bring a person of the opposite gender inside this very house. That was what we agreed. And you just breached that agreement. Do you still think you have the right to ask me that?”

“She was just a friend.”

“An agreement is an agreement.”

Oliver bit his lips. He frowned and slammed his hands on the tabletop. Snow quickly moved to the side, so now she was standing behind me, as if watching an interesting show.

“It just needs your sign. After that, we can go on our own ways and separate amicably. Sign it and I will leave. Right this instant.”

Oliver gritted his teeth, “Crystal, do you know what you are talking about?”

“I know that very well. After all, I was the one who filed for that.”

As soon as I said that, I turned around and walked away. There’s no use staying here any longer. This suffocating feeling inside my heart kept gripping my insides, making it hard to breath when I am around him.

After this divorce, I can finally be free from that suffocating feeling.

I told myself, “You can do it. You are strong.”
