Jade didn't know when Vladek swiftly lifted her onto his back, but of one thing she was sure.

They were running from something. They were trying not to show it but she had seen Izen looking over his shoulder making sure they weren't being followed. What's more. Vladek's back was very tense and his arms held her with great force, the kind that would leave bruises on her thighs but she did not reply. It was not the moment. She only limited herself to holding onto his neck so as not to fall at the speed at which they were going.

They traversed the forest paths, dodging the trees until they came to a sudden stop. Jade had to close her eyes from the impulse that shook her head. Beneath her, she heard the wolf snarl and squeezed her even tighter. This time Jade let out a low groan in her throat, her bones beginning to creak. That seemed to take effect as the grip loosened a bit, but not enough.
