Chapter 35: Roman Makes His Move

This is it. I'm officially getting fired.

I spend the rest of the day trying to distract myself, but it's hard to convince yourself to work when you know the end is nigh. The minutes drag on forever, but the seemingly endless wait still isn't long enough for me to come up with a reasonable excuse for my behavior of the past few days. There is no excuse.

I wait until most of my coworkers have left for the day before I drag myself to my feet and march toward the conference room. I don't want anyone witnessing this. No doubt word will spread quickly, but I hope I'm gone by the time people start emailing the video to each other.

When I enter the conference room, Roman is, as usual, bent over his laptop. His phone buzzes, but he doesn't answer it. He doesn't look up at me, but he gestures to the chair across from him.

"I'll be with you in a minute," he says.
