24: Vulnerability

Why would he take me to his house? What was his plan? Questions ran through my head, and I said nothing until he pulled up before his penthouse.

Perhaps his place would be the best place to spend the night, especially after the night I had had. If seen by Lyon this way, he would want to know what happened, and all hell would break loose when he did. I didn’t want the event to escalate more than it had. I just wanted to put it all in the past and move on.

“We are at your place,” I said, my first words since entering the car twenty-five minutes ago.

He didn’t look at me; he just nodded, “Yes.” He got down and came over to my side of the car. He reached out and opened it for me, and I stepped out.

I’ve been here before. It was my next place to go home growing up. The memories of him helping me out with a few of my home projects rushed into my head. I still remember both of us in the house talking for hours about life and growing up. I remembered giggling non-stop at his corny jokes while
