Chapter 16

I folded our clothes while I watched Kerrick sitting by a window, staring out at the sky.

His face was the perfect image of blankness but his eyes were glazed over with what looked like sadness.

Each time I folded a new piece of clothing I watched him, but his gloomy expression didn't change.

"Delancy."

"Yes?"

"We're going to a party tonight."

"What?"

"A business party, my father is throwing it at the office."

I licked my lips and furrowed my brows nervously.

"Kerrick, I've never been to a business party before."

He was quiet and he didn't look at me.

I went and put our clothes away but he was still looking out the window.

"I don't have anything to wear."

He turned to me slowly and sighed.

"I'll take you to a store then."

I smiled and rubbed the nape of my neck.

"Um, Okay, thanks."

He got up and walked over to where I was, and I averted my gaze but I could tell he was staring at me.
