“How are you feeling, Mother?” I asked as I helped her sit up. I gently laid Mother’s back against that headboard of her bed. I stood at the entrance of the forest, arriving at the foot of the mountain. My mind still wondered as to where Laura was. When I went to the hills, the entrance to it was barricaded. The people who guarded the blockade said that bandits entered the city and they were preventing a swift escape for them. For certain, Laura couldn’t be there. I could only wonder if she was safe. I shook my head as I tried to remove those thoughts from my mind. Now wasn’t the time to think about her. I had to focus on my mission and that was to get the ledoras herb. We had walked for quite some time now. All I saw were endless miles of trees and everything that was green. But, suddenly, we arrived at a place that I thought only existed in myths. Those tales that were told to us to make us sleep. “And we have arrived,” the woman said as she struck her staff onto the grass-covered ground. “The heart of the forest.” I slowly stepped forward. My mouth hung open in disbelief from what I was seeing. Faint sunlight shone through the leaves from the towering trees. Different flowers surrounded us. To our right was a small waterfall with a narrow river that cascaded past us. Even more birds sang in the air. I was about to walk further when the woman stopped me, grabbing me by my shoulder. “What’s the matter?” I asked as I was brought back from my sense of wonder. “Have you ever been in this kind of environment? I barged into the room, the doors swung open and hit the walls behind them. A loud bang echoed throughout the room. “Robert!” Bethilda exclaimed. “I didn’t know that you were already here.” I paid no mind to her and walked directly towards Mother. “I have your medicine, Mother,” I smiled as I sat beside her. I kissed her forehead before I showed the ledoras plant, still wrapped within a leaf. “Is this real?” Mother asked as she looked at me with pride. “Yes, Mother. It is indeed the ledoras plant,” I answered, carefully opening the leaf. “This is what the Medicine King told you to take. I asked him about it and now, I found it for you.” “How does it work?” she asked, eager to take the herb. I then explained, “You can take it as it is or we can brew it. However, the guardian of this plant said it’s better to eat it. I planned to brew it but I didn’t want to lessen the strength of its healing extract. You don’t have to worry about chewing. Another hectic day for the king of Western Wind. Just after he awakened from his sleep, he immediately summoned the higher nobles of the court for a meeting. He skipped his greetings to his still sleeping wife and rushed to prepare himself. And when he arrived in the accepting room, he was told of a big problem at the pier. Some of the fishermen complained about not being compensated properly. They also needed new fishing vessels to meet the growing demands of exportation and of their own economy. James wasted no time. He ordered for the royal carriage right away and accompanied the nobles to the pier. ~*~*~*~ It took almost half of the day for everyone to settle down. Some of the lights were dimmed as two people remained inside. Laura was too immersed in scrubbing the floors. They were already cleaned by her other works.
