Sixty

A loud thud echoed as Nate pushed Danny into a chair across from his desk. I sat in Nate’s place, as I crossed my legs and shot Nate a warning glance.

Nate lifted his hands in surrender as he backed away from an ever-growing concerned Danny. His eyebrows furrowed as sadness clouded his features. The colour had drained from his face as he met my gaze.

I let out a quiet sigh as I intertwined my hands and placed them on the desk in front of me. “Danny,” I started. “How have you found it here?”

His jaw momentarily hung agape as he appeared startled by my unexpected question. “It’s been fantastic, Luna. I’ve never tasted such wonderful food and slept in a bed before. You’ve taken great care of me, I’m forever in your debt.”

I offered him a warm smile as I lent back in my chair. “Danny, can we trust you?” I asked.

Danny’s eyes widened as hurt struck across his face. “Of course, Luna.”
