28. What is this that I'm feeling?

Selene couldn't help but shift her gaze towards the landscape visible through the carriage window. Her heart was racing, yet she felt happy and deeply confused. A sense of shame washed over her as she recalled what had just transpired with the king in the middle of nowhere. It wasn't right; she hadn't been raised or educated this way. Still, it felt so good that the desire to continue experiencing it grew within her.

"Anyway, we will be spouses," she thought, attempting to shake off that feeling of guilt.

"Is something wrong?" Frederick asked when he noticed Selene's hand had gone rigid, ceasing its thumb movement around his hand.

Selene turned, not quite grasping the question, but a shiver ran down her spine upon seeing the king's intense gaze fixed on her. She swallowed but didn't dare to say anything. Instead, she shook her head and offered a timid smile.

"You don't need to hide things from me," the king said, surprising her. "I know something's bothering you. Please, tell me."
