Chapter 122

As soon as I uttered Adolf's name, he refused to meet my gaze. But I could tell from how his body tensed that he was listening intently. His presence left a palpable energy in the air.

“Daciana, let’s go!”

I found myself unable to respond when someone suddenly grabbed my hand, dragging me away from Adolf and the enemies. I glanced over at Blode, running down together with an unspoken urgency. Our lungs felt as if they would burst. I could feel the grip of Blode's hand around mine – it was a silent anchor which kept me from escaping into my own world of panic and confusion.

“W-what are you doing?! We’re leaving Adolf with the enemies-”

“We can't dally here, Daciana! Azariel and his forces are almost upon us and we must free your father and the rest of your tribe before it's too late. And Adolf needs to handle those two after what he did - it's only fair!”
