Chapter 43: Burning
The first thing Scarlett sensed when she began to regain consciousness was the soft, cool mattress beneath her. She had never felt such softness in her life, and she wanted to stay there forever, feeling the smooth surface holding her sore body. Then, memories of what had happened to her recently began race through her mind.
This wasn't her bed, and she wasn't in Karai. She was in Arandana, and Hova had infiltrated Queen Edda's castle, possibly looking to kill her. Prince Marcellus had been wounded and she had given him blood, and then... then something had charred the Hova attackers in the blink of an eye.
She heard the rustle of fabric very close to her and she opened her eyes.
"Oh thank Karai, you're awake," Voty said, opening the curtain around the four-poster bed.
"Voty! What happened?" Scarlett said, reluctantly sitting up. "Is everyone all right?"
