Saskia humphs, winding her head away from me. “Stop saying things only because you believe I want to hear them from you.”

Perceptive as usual. “I can’t help it if it’s the truth, asthore.”

While it should be no surprise she asked this, I am caught off-guard by its blow nonetheless. “No, I was not. I was her lover, yes. But I did not love her.”
