139. The night

RAYA'S POV.

As I walked down the hallway, the floorboards creaking beneath my feet, I saw Asher disappear into his room. I hesitated for a moment, unsure if I should follow him in, but my curiosity got the better of me. I opened the door quietly and peered inside.

The room was dimly lit, with only a single lamp casting a warm glow. Asher was sitting on the edge of his bed, staring out the window into the night sky. For a moment, he didn't seem to notice me there, watching him.

But then, as if sensing my presence, he turned his head and met my gaze. The small smile was still there, but it had grown softer, warmer. It was as if he was genuinely happy to see me.

"Hey," he said, his voice low and gentle. "What brings you here?"

"I just wanted to check on you," I replied, taking a step into the room.

He nodded, his eyes still locked on mine. "I appreciate that," he said. "But really, I'm okay."
