97. Urgent

RAYA'S POV

I rush out of the house and into the neighbourhood, my sense of smell leading me to Lia's location. I spot her hunched over a sand castle, giggling and playing with her friends. The sight of her carefree happiness makes my heart ache. I remember the days when we all used to play like that, before our world was turned upside down.

I approach her and grab her arm, pulling her up. "Come on, Lia," I say urgently. "Mom wants us back at the house."

Lia resists, pulling back from me. "I don't want to go," she protests. "I'm playing with my friends."

I feel frustration welling up inside me. I've been tasked with bringing Lia back and I can't just leave her here. "Come on, Lia," I repeat, pulling harder.

But Lia is stronger than she looks. She resists with all her might, her friends cheering her on. I can feel the anger and frustration boiling over inside me and before I know it, I'm pulling her hair and hitting her. I hate myself for what I'm doing, but I can't seem to stop.
