Chapter Ten

Kavan

As I sat in the grand chamber surrounded by my council members, my mind drifted, consumed by thoughts of Kazia, my mate. Knowing that she existed and that I had to deal with being separated from her, weighed heavily upon my heart, and I longed for the day when I could see and hold her in my arms once more.

Lost in my reverie, I paid little attention to the discussions unfolding around me.

Leo, one of my council members, stood tall, his voice filled with frustration. He spoke at length, his words a blur in my distracted state. It was only when Jason, my ever-vigilant Beta, tapped me lightly and sent a telepathic message through our mind link that I snapped back to reality.

"Kavan, you need to focus," Jason's voice echoed in my mind. "The council is discussing important matters."

Blinking away the remnants of my daydreams, I turned my attention to Leo, his brows furrowed in irritation. Realizing my lapse, I cleared my throat and asked him to repeat his statement.
