The next morning, I awoke to a sound in the room, but when I heard the door shut. I opened my eyes.

Arnou was not on the bed again.

I sat up a bit worried by his absence. It was still very early in the morning and I wondered where he had gone to. I wondered if he left because he had no idea how to face me after our emotional conversation last night.

The wonderful bubble I had been floating in when I went to bed, burst at the thought that Arnou had left his room this early to flee from me.

I got up from the bed and opened the door to the balcony.

Outside, dawn was just creeping in, and I could hear the sounds of the palace in the morning.

Sounds came from the servant’s quarters that had come to life already. Sounds came from the soldiers who were undergoing their early morning training.

The morning air was cold and I rubbed my arms trying to encourage warmth. I turned back to go into the room when I noticed a familiar figure walking across the palace grounds toward the woods
