As we made our way to the kitchen, I walked ahead, annoyed with the knowing smirk resting on Archer’s beautiful face.

This cocky son of a bitch.

The lingering question nagged at the back of my mind like an itch I couldn't scratch. "Archer, why is the house empty? Where is everyone?" I finally voiced my concern, unable to shake off the unease as we returned to the eerily silent living room.

Archer paused, his expression unreadable for a moment before he offered a reassuring smile. "They're on a vacation," he replied casually, as if it were the most natural thing in the world. "I thought it would be best to keep them safe without scaring them, you know?"

I frowned, the pieces of the puzzle slowly falling into place. "So, you sent my kids away to keep them safe?" I asked, a hint of disbelief creeping into my voice.
