At what point do you decide that your pride isn’t worth it anymore?

I suppose it’s not a matter of having the opportunity to when I’ve turned down every single one of them that’s crossed my path. Ultimately, it’s a matter of being backed into a corner and choosing the path of lesser consequence—the path of submission in hope of gracefulness.

With the music playing softly from the sound system, Marcel drove us into the city where he warned me to stay in the truck while he ran into a store and came back with a bag of food and drinks that he placed in the backseat.
