I waited for the wailing and tears I knew was coming but it never came. I peeked at their faces only to see my kids exchanging a proud smile.

“It is funny you don’t know Mum.” My son said with a pitying smile and I wondered what I was missing here.

“Know exactly what, son?” But it was obvious even to me that I really did not wish to know the answer.

“That next Friday is a school holiday. There won’t be any school so we are free to go.” My daughter cried excitedly and the sounds felt strange to my ears.

“Next Friday is a school holiday?” I found myself repeating softly and my kids nodded with a booming smile on their faces.

“Yes Mum and now you can't stop us from going.” My son declared firmly, making it obvious they knew my games all these while.

“It seems kids these days are wiser than we give them credit for.” That annoying man murmured softly and my disloyal friend chuckled in agreement. I included both of them in a fierce glare.
