Chapter 28

As I made my way down the narrow staircase leading to the prison entrance, my heart raced with every step. The guard clothes felt unfamiliar against my skin, and the tension in the air was palpable. I couldn't afford to get caught. My mission depended on it.

Just as I turned a corner, I collided with a fellow guard, causing a sharp gasp to escape my lips. "Watch where you're going, man," the guard scolded me, his voice tinged with annoyance.

My initial panic melted into relief as I recognized the voice. It was Alpha Charles, the ally I had sneaked in with. I couldn't help but chuckle softly. "You scared me, man. I thought you were a real guard, Alpha Charles."

He grinned, the corners of his eyes crinkling with amusement. "Sorry about that, Sergio. You're doing great so far. What's taking you so long, though? Why haven't you found Gabriel yet? Did you get lost or something?"
