Hector's POV

I watched as Sapphire slept peacefully like a child. Her wounds were healing and she was starting to breathe steadily unlike when I first used my magic on her, she was gasping so violently as if she was fighting for air but now she's okay.

I had taken her to her room and was watching her and thinking to myself, this is how Sapphire would've died and I wouldn't have her with me anymore? This is how I would've talked about her in past tense?

I ran my hands through my hair and wondered deeply about how I got into this mess in the first place. Was there anything I could've done to prevent it? And if there was, why didn't I do anything?

Deep down, I knew that I could've done things differently and I knew the reason why I didn't - Kayla.

As much as I love Kayla and wanted nothing more than to protect her, I've never been able to love her without pushing others away. If I could, I would've been able to save them a lot of trouble.
