The council vs mom and grandma

Max’s POV

Grandma is about to open that door. When that oak door opens, there will be no going back, Max. I told myself. I can bolt here. Right now and leave . Go someplace else where I could start anew. But, will that be worth it?

My grandmother and my mother placed all their faith in me. They kept me safe.

My father made the greatest sacrifice to keep me alive, to be able to be back here and make  a difference.

Bailing out seems a good idea, but in the long run? Will it make my life a little less full of regrets and what if’s?

I take a good look of my kind grandmother’s eyes. I see love and pride there. And if she worked real hard to get the respect she was experiencing now, I do not think that a very confused and coward gran daughter had the right to take it away from her.

“Suck it in.” I reminded myself.<
