Out of nowhere and fast, that is how everything happened. Just a single glance at Melody was all it took for the warrior holding Nathan to draw out a knife and lodge it inside my mate's stomach. I didn't know which came out first—the growl, the whimper, or the pure red sparks on my finger tips. In slow motion, I watched as Melody opened her mouth to scream, her hands going to the handle of the knife as she bent.

"Melody!" Someone screamed her name, but I couldn't tell who because all I wanted was to pull out that knife and heal her. I never got to place even my hand on it because a green light, similar to the one back at Nathan's basement, formed around Melody. When I tried getting through to her, a bubble formed as she sank onto her knees. Trying to get to her was like hitting a wall made of pure rock. The bubble only thickened, and I could hear gasps and awe.

"Please let me in." If I wasn't convinced earlier that none of that was due to my protection spell, that changed.
