Addi's Dilemma

Sam sat on the steps of the back porch, watching the rain fall quietly. They’d been home for over an hour and Addi still wasn’t home. Amber told her not to worry, but she always would. Addi was her life. Amber and Addi were her whole world. She listened for a moment and heard the soft breathing behind her. She smiled and turned her head to look up at Amber. Tilting her head, she patted the spot next to her. Amber smiled too and walked over to sit down next to her.

“You’re still worried,” Amber said. She laid her head on Sam’s shoulder. “She’s going to be okay.”

“How can you be so sure?” Sam asked and laid her hand on Amber’s thigh.

“Because, she has pieces of me, and pieces of you. The best pieces of us. And she did speak to someone, she didn’t try and sort this out herself.”

“She spoke to a stranger, instead of us,” Sam grumbled.

“Yes, sometimes it’s easier to do that,” Amber said. “And we have been distracted, neither of us noticed what she was going through.” Amber shook her head.
