"Goodnight." He whispers, watching as she walks towards the door. As soon as she reaches it, he grabs her hand, causing her to freeze in place and turn around. He brings her hand up to his lips and presses a tender kiss against the inside of her wrist before releasing it. She stays where she is, watching him as he sits there on the bed, staring at her intently.

"I love you." He states, a smile forming on his lips.

"I love you too." She whispers, giving him a weak smile before opening the door and exiting his bedroom. As soon as she leaves, he falls back onto the mattress, closing his eyes tightly.

As much as he would like to go back to sleep, he knows that there is no way he will fall asleep after that. He knows that he can't risk going back to sleep before seeing her again.

He has to make sure that she's really okay. He has to make sure that she is truly happy and safe. That is all he cares about.
