Chapter 54

The living room was so quiet that one could hear a pin drop. Without anyone else there, the air felt a bit chilly.

Finally, James said, "I was punishing them."

Puzzled, Summer asked, "Punishing? Punishing them for what?"

"For not protecting you properly."

Summer realized he was referring to the incident when Bradly took her away.

However, this had nothing to do with Charlie and Connor, as they had insisted on staying to protect her. It was her insistence that made the two brothers leave.

"It's not their fault; it's mine. I was the one who asked them to leave, which allowed Bradly to take me away," she explained before pausing for a moment.

Then, with an eager expression, she added, "Besides, nothing significant happened, and I managed to come back safely."

The scene of Charlie and Connor lashing out at each other replayed in Summer's mind.

She shuddered at the gruesome scene of both of them covered in blood, not understanding why James would resort to such brutality.
