When I arrived home around 4 p.m., the girls were just waking up from their nap. Mrs. P seemed surprised to see me back home "so early," as she put it. The encounter with Noah had left an awkward atmosphere, so we returned to the dining room to have our meal.

Our conversation consisted of forced small talk, which made the situation even more uncomfortable. Thankfully, having food in front of me gave me something to focus on when we ran out of things to say. We both knew it was best to avoid personal topics such as family, as it would only add to the awkwardness.

I couldn't help but blame myself for how the lunch date turned sour, but there's no use dwelling on it now.
