Little Mate

"Max, I can't go any further tonight. We've been switching buses, trains, and now boats for hours. I need some time to, to process, everything." We had been going for what felt like eternity, but in reality it had only been about a days worth of travel.

"No, I'm sorry my little mate. We can't stop. Not until we get there." I nodded as Max pulled me along to get onto an airplane. I could tell we were headed north because of the cold weather. My sense of direction felt completely wonky but the fact that we needed passports made me believe we were on our way to Canada.

I sat next to him on the tiny charter plane with tears welling up in my eyes. 

"We're almost there. A few more stops." Max squeezed my hand. "I promise you. You can do this. We can do this. Together."
