Randelle and I stepped into Kieran's cabin, the warm light of the hearth fire welcoming us. Kieran looked up from the blade he was sharpening, eyes flickering with surprise.

"Jeremy. And the omega girl. Back so soon?"

I met his piercing gaze. "Yes. Randelle has passed your challenge. She subdued Luthien beneath the full moon."

Kieran's bushy eyebrows shot up. Slowly, he set down the half-finished knife and turned his full attention on Randelle. She stood tall under his scrutiny.

"Luthien, you say?" Kieran stroked his grizzled beard thoughtfully. "She's plagued these lands for generations. Many have tried to slay her, all have failed."

He stepped closer, staring intently into Randelle's face. She met his gaze unflinchingly.

"Yet here you stand," he murmured. "How ever did you manage to best her, dear?"

Randelle's voice was clear and steady as she replied. "I awakened my true wolf spirit under the moon's light. And Luthien...she granted me a piece of her essence as a reward.
