Chapter Fifty: Violet
I wanted that. I wanted that, and I wanted that with Caleb. No more hiding from the gossip and rumors. They could say what they wanted about me. I could handle it. What I wouldn't be able to handle would be to see Caleb with a new girl when it could have been me making him happy.

The walk to the dining area of the house was quick, as though I were on autopilot. I smiled when I smelled lunch being made. Jones sat across the room with a few members of our team and waved me down."Practice was rough on you, man! I can't see how you could be smiling after you got sacked so many times. It was a long two weeks without Violet. I waited outside of her lecture hall, but she wasn't there. My calls and texts were ignored, and I didn't see her around campus. My room hadn't been changed, but I didn't bother to unpack since I would only be there for three days. I hid in my room for as long as I could until I heard the doorbell. As we all sat around the table, I was thankful that my dad had gone and grabbed the table leaf. As it was, Diana was sitting closer to me than I would have liked. Her elbow kept bumping mine as her dominant arm was next to mine. If the table was its usual size, our parents may have tried to get her to sit in my lap due to the limited space.The tension may have been thick between the two of us, but our parents went on and on as if nothing had changed.
