Chapter 107

EVA'S POV

"Goodness!!!" I screamed.

I was completely unaware of the deer crossing the road. My mind was wandering, caught up in the problems of my life. I didn't notice the signs, the warnings, or the danger that was lurking just ahead. It wasn't until I saw the deer in the headlights that I realized what was about to happen.

I slammed on the brakes, but it was too late.

The car swerved off the road and into the forest. The sound of the impact was deafening, with metal and glass shattering around me. I felt my body flung around inside the car like a rag doll. I was thrown around violently, hitting my head on the steering wheel and dashboard. The jade and pearl necklace that I had always worn came in contact with the dashboard and suddenly broke, scattering the precious stones all over the floor of the car.
