Mira had always known that no one was meant to live forever.
Even Immortals, those from the supernatural world. As a Blessed Hybrid, she knew that a day would come when all her worries, suffering and torment would be over. She imagined that it would all come down to losing control of her source of energy, or violence.
Never did she ever believe that she had a shot at love.
At finding her mate...
Her fated one...
And a big part of her didn't want to.
She didn't want to be a burden to her mate, or those around her. So, for many years, she believed she was better off alone with her loving father at her side.
Until she felt drawn to Alpha Bastion and she is yet to decide whether she wants to hang about and find out if they are mates or to venture out into a world she is yet to see.
---
As the reddish-tinged moon rose in the sky, the temperature in the room dropped. Mira, who had been held hostage for two consecutive days in her mind, was gently roused from her slumber by a chilly breeze that entered the room via the window that had been left ajar.
The source of energy that left her chest like a beam of light really took its toll on her body. She was yet to wake up and realise that she has been locked up in the spare room of the packhouse that belonged to Alpha Bastion. So he could have the leisure in questioning her with nowhere for her run.
FURTHERMORE, She would never know that the cold Alpha whose wolf was clawing at his chest, scaring his fucking soul, and who refused to believe that she was his mate. Sat in the corner of the room in the dusty old recliner, and watched her sleep most of the night on the hard frigid floor.
A throaty groan exited her lips as she pulled herself off the hard floor with her hand over her head. Her mind was foggy and her eyes were glassy from the yawn that departed her lips.
As she got to her feet, she staggered for a bit, then she found her footing, and raised her head to see where she was because she knew she wasn't in the tree she was forced to sleep in the night she was exiled from Midnight Pack territory.
She sighed, "Where the fuck am I now?" She questioned herself as she waited for the fog in her head to lift.
Wasting no time, she walked towards the door, turned the handle and cursed under her breath when she realised it was locked. She started to panic, giggling at the handle as she kicked the thick wooden slabbed door trying her best to pull it open.
"Hello!!" She called out at the top of her lungs. "Is anybody there?"
She was met with silence and it was the silence that frightened her the most for she didn't know where she was or if she had been left in the room deliberately by a slave huntress. She was still too weak to even bother thinking about drawing from her source of energy.
Letting go of the handle, she stammered towards the window that was left ajar and used the last ounce of strength she had to push it up. She leaned over the ledge of the window and quickly realised she wasn't on the first floor. But she had a feeling that if she jumped, she would be okay and she can make a getaway without anybody realising she had escaped until it was too late.
She lowered her right leg through the window's hollow frame while pressing her back against the frame. She then rotated slightly, hanging onto the window ledge with one hand, and slid her second leg, followed by the rest of her body, through the window. All the while she was hyperventilating and had her eyes squeezed shut.
The cool air whipped across her face, blowing through her red hair as she squinted, and took in her surroundings, never letting go of the window frame. She drew in a sharp breath, and let go of the wooden frame, standing upright and she walked to the edge of the gutter, peering downwards.
"It's now or never Mira." She spoke out loud, amping herself up.
She counted to three in her head and made the jump. landing on her hands and feet, she lifted her hand to her mouth, kissed her fingertips and held it above her head. "Thank you..." She whispered, pushing off the ground, she started to run.
She didn't have a clue where she was going, and she couldn't give two hoots as long she made it away safely.
"Shit!!" She cried out as she rounded the barn that was stationed by the woods.
To her surprise, there was a campfire blazing and many people circled around it. She pressed her body flush against the barn, reaching up to touch the pendant around her neck. Her heart dropped into her stomach and she bowed her head to find the pendant was gone.
"What the fuck..." Her voice quivered as she looked back the way she came and contemplated going back to the house to find it.
But this notion rapidly lost its appeal as she heard footsteps and crunching leaves in front of her. She stood there seeing two young men being dragged through the muddy ground by two big black-furred wolves with their fangs sunken deep into their shoulders.
The men clawed hopelessly, pleaded, wailed, and attempted to sink their heels into the earth as a kind of resistance. The wolves shook their heads, tossing the men around as if they were rag dolls with a growl emanating from their jaws.
There wasn't a whiff of compassion that wafted through the breeze that was encircling them. Instead, they all looked on and cheered the wolves on as they walked into the circle, tossing the men to the ground.
The men struggled to their feet, unable to shift into their wolves because they were too weak and battered. Mira could not look away despite her desire to do so. This was how it was... Their way, and she was curious to discover what in the hell was going on.
The two large black wolves cocked their heads back, their noses tipped up towards the moon and they started to howl.
The two battered men tried to break through the circle but they were pushed back inside of it.
The applauding, pleas of mercy, and howling wolves abruptly ceased, and a small gap appeared in the circle, allowing Alpha Bastion to enter.
Topless, barefoot with only a pair of washed-out denim jeans on. He stood tall with his strong hands at his sides.
"NO!! Please, show my boys some mercy!"
Mira's attention switched from the Alpha to the elderly man she had rescued from the woods. The elderly man fell to his knees, pleading for the lives of his sons while seeming utterly defenceless and heartbroken.
"Your sons have committed murder, Mr Travis." The Alpha openly declared in a firm tone that held no remorse what so forever for him. "There were two humans in the bar that night, and it is our responsibility to protect them. Not put them in harm's way just to be spiteful like your mongrel sons here."
"No.... please Alpha Bastion..." Mr Travis begged once again. "They are all I have left of their mother."
Mira felt empathy for the elderly man. However, she understood why the Alpha had ordered the execution of Mr Travis' sons. The rule of law must prevail, and it must be carried out by the pack. Sympathy did not taint her soul as she stood there watching.
She realised she had to move quickly before someone spotted her. She turned around and, regrettably, stepped into Beta Daniels' muscular chest, running her fingers through her red hair.
"Going somewhere, rogue?" He muttered with distaste as he took her by the upper arm and started to drag her towards the circle.
She fought against him, clawing at the Beta's hand with her sharp nails, but he did not flinch and her motions had no effect on him.
"The Alpha has been waiting for you to wake up." He sneered as he peered down at her. "I can't wait to see what punishment he has installed for you."
"Fuck you and your Alpha!" She spat out bitterly.
The Beta scoffed at her, "Not in this lifetime or any other." Just as he pushed her into the circle, he murmured in her ear, and she fell at the feet of the Alpha.
Thank you for giving my book a shot. It is my first attempt at a werewolf novel so please bear with me. Haha. Please leave a review, comment, subscribe if you haven't and drop a shiny gem to help rank my book. Appreciate you...
Alpha Bastion watched as Mira fell to the ground at his bare feet. Her red hair blew in the wind assaulting his sense of smell and he could see the flickering shadows from the fire as it danced across the dark green grass. His wolf clawed at his chest with a snarl hanging off the tips of his protruding canines. ~Mate!!!~ His wolf, Shadow howled. ~I will tear Enzo apart!!~ He snarled viciously meaning every word. The Alpha closed his eyes, trying to keep his wolf at bay. ~You will do no such thing. Enzo is our Beta, our most loyal and trusted comrade.~ Shadow replied with a vicious snarl before he stepped back into the shadows. The breathless silence from the assembled circle didn't go unnoticed. A soft murmur swept through the air beside the crackling sound of the fire popping. Alpha Bastion looked down at Mira, his hands curled into tight balls as he willed himself to stay rooted in his place. Mira stood up, coming face to face with the Alpha. "You took something from me that
"The Travis brothers will be banished from the pack now that they have fled. Is anyone courageous enough to contest my decision?" Alpha Bastion announced plainly as he peered out into the circle and noticed Mr Travis turning away, with his head lowered, retreating from the circle. There was no remorse felt for the elderly man. As his boys grew up, he was repeatedly cautioned that he needed to maintain a tight leash on them before they did the unimaginable and injured a human on purpose for sport. When the figure of Mr Travis's body faded into the darkness of the night, the Alpha glanced briefly in the direction of where Mira remained to stand with her back to him. She was still engaged in a lengthy discussion with the old woman who revealed who Mira genuinely was. He was still unsure what that meant or what she was capable of. Regardless of whether he chose to accept her as his mate or reject her, he was aware that she was powerful and could be a great addition to their pack. ~Re
"Well, my love, shall we?" The elderly lady asked Mira once again if they should be on their way. "Yes, It's getting late." The Alpha absentmindedly rubbed the side of his arm as a light breeze blew past him, and it carried Miras' scent along with it. As he stood at her side, his body felt like it was on fire, his flesh searing till it scorched with yearning. He watched through panicked stricken eyes as she and the elderly lady took a few steps away from him, in the direction of her residence. ~She's leaving. Don't let her leave without speaking to you. I knew you were going to fuck this up. Didn't I warn you that you would fuck this up and-~ The Alpha rolled his eyes heavenward and opened his mouth. "I'd like to have a word with you, rogue." He blurted out and turned to face them. Mira came to an abrupt halt, her shoulders sagged as she sighed, and shook her head, "My name is Mira and in the near future if you want to have a conversation with me, I suggest you learn my name
The cool air that encompassed the Alpha and his feisty rogue, grew thin with sexual tension wafting between them. With the Alpha close to her, touching her, and only a whisper away from her lips. Mira felt a hunger that was completely foreign to her. The Alpha's breath was hot against her bare skin, but it also felt soothing, like he was a remedy for the inferno that he had ignited within her. Solely from the sound of his dominant voice. It was consuming, intoxicating and as the Alpha pulled back, gazing into her eyes, he stole her breath away. His eyes glowed with crimson rings, and before her mind could catch up with her body, she leaned forward and pressed her lips against his. She felt a ripple of sparks searing through her thrumming veins, and she snaked her arms around the Alpha's neck, drawing him in closer... Deeper... ALPHA BASTION could hear Mira's heart pounding against her rib cage, it was creating a beautiful beat, matching the rhythm of his, syncing together a
"Run Clohe! You still have six laps before you need to join the others at the obstacle course!" The Alphas voice boomed through the mid-morning air. He knew he was taking his frustration out on Clohe, punishing her for last night. No matter how many times he told himself; convinced himself it was for her benefit. It wasn't. His lack of discipline was equally attributable to those who behaved behind his back without his awareness. He didn't like his pack members sacrificing themselves for a cause none of them didn't fully understand just yet. He also intended to sit down and have a word with Mave and question her. He wanted to know what was going through her mind when she told her daughter to allow Mira to draw from her energy. It was reckless and they put everyone in danger. His eyes left Clohe and they drifted towards the woods. He still had no idea why they were attacked or who attacked them. It was making him feel on edge, a little paranoid and certainly angry within hims
Mira stood in front of the mirror, looking back at herself. Her breath caught in her throat as she didn't recognise the young, attractive woman staring back at her with shiny hair flowing in waves down her back. The small black dress that Clohe had lent her enhanced her curves, which she had no idea were beneath her usual sweater and jeans. Clohe strolled in with a set of ruby earrings that complemented her ruby pendant as she turned to her side. "I think these will look great on you," She cooed as she stood behind Mira and held the earrings against Miras' earlobes. Mira nibbled on her lower lip. "You don't think they will be a bit of an overkill? I mean... I'm not going to the ball to find my mate, and I don't know how I'm going to run in these heels if trouble should find us." She giggled as she peered down at the pumps that encased her feet. "Gods, no!" Clohe beamed. "You look stunning, plus I doubt Alpha Bastion will let any of the males attending tonight get within two feet o
Both Mira and the Alpha felt in tune with their bodies as they walked into the club where the dance was being held. They had many eyes watching their every move as the Alpha led Mira around the dance floor. He held her close, nudging her hair as he got drunk off her scent. Mira felt dizzy with lust, her body felt like it was on fire as she tingled all over. She raised her hands, and she slid them over his torso until they landed on his chest. She then gently pushed him back as she needed to create some distance between them. She wanted to avoid giving him or their audience the wrong impression. She had come to the dance to ensure the safety of everyone, not to blend in. "I thought you asked me here to help keep your pack members safe, not... dance?" She asked him with an underlay of amusement lacing her soft words. "I did. There is no harm in us blending in, Mira; being one with the pack." "Hmmm, I think you have been sorely misled, because I don't think you'll ever be able
Mira stilled her beating heart. The Alpha Kings' eyes, too, shone brilliantly when he looked at her. "Please, rise to your feet. There is no need for an Alpha King to bow in my presence." She cooed as she snapped her hand back as she felt like his feverish skin had scorched her fingertips. As the Alpha King rose to his full height, Alpha Bastion stepped forward. "Thank you for coming to my aid." Mira felt compelled to thank him in front of their audience."If you didn't show up when you did, I'm not sure what I would have done to Beta Daniel." She made sure to say the Betas name loud and clear for all to hear. "No need to thank me." ALPHA BASTION snarled as he looked past the Alpha King and stared at his Beta who was slumped over. His Beta couldn't have looked more pitiful and shameful in front of his young pack members who were taking photos of him on their smartphones, even if he tried. He looked to his right, "Get him out of my sight!" He ordered through gritted teeth. Two
