Book 1: Chapter Sixty-One
*** Solaris POV ***
I had had a rough few days that I didn’t know if I would even have a good day left in me. There wasn’t even the strength to hold up my body on my right leg, let alone put weight on my left leg. Yesterday, I felt better to walk around the house. Now, I was sitting at a local diner waiting. I ordered a coffee and was pouring the cream into it when Charles walked in.
He looked around, caught my smile and headed over. He slid into the seat across from me.
“How are you doing? Silas said you were having a time after…”
I smiled. “Better. Though, I don’t think I’ll have many more of these days.”
He smiled at me sadly. “I guess we should enjoy it then!”
His optimism made me smile even wider and I nodded. “We are waiting on one more person.”
“Another person? Is this the reason why you wanted to meet me?”
I nodded.

*** Silas POV *** I stared down at my desk, not reading the words on the page in front of me. Turning around, I looked out the window of my office. We pulled up to a house at around seven in the evening. Everyone piled out and I narrowed my eyes. The house seemed familiar but I couldn’t quite place it. I woke with a start when someone in the house screamed. Jumping up, I opened the door, greeted by Maggie who was pulling on a robe across from me. Her peppered grey hair in a long braid down the side. Nate had also poked his head out of the door down the hall. Walking to the only other occupied bedroom, I opened the door.My heart sunk immediately. Noah was standing against the back wall, completely frozen. Finn was on the bed, leaning over Aelia, doing compressions on her chest. I couldn’t see it, but I smelled blood. Nate started to walk in but I grabbed him, pulling his back to my chest as I wrapped my arms around him. His eyes finally took in what was happening, but my arms caged him in from being able to move or shift. *** Solaris POV *** I felt bad. The lightheartedness that we had when we walked into Maggies was sucked out of the air when I nearly died. Or I did die, as Noah continued to angrily remind me. Finn wouldn’t let me out of his eyesight, even for a moment. Which even included me going to the restroom until I finally slammed the door in his face. Nate seemed like a lost puppy, not knowing what to do or how to help. Silas was probably the most stable out of the four of them. He was a pillar and I relied on him more than the other three. It was nice to have someone mentally stable enough to continue as normal as he could.Maggie was as sweet as ever, also being a pillar of strength but I knew this time I’d finally broken through her thick skin. I unlocked the bar as the guys grabbed all of our bags. Opening up the door, I stopped as I stared at the back of my old man. He was leaning over the bar, a glass of bourbon sitting on the bar next to him. We had added him to the back door thumbprint unlock but I never really thought he would use it while we were away.
