Five: A Strange Luck

LUSTRE

My whole body aches like hell.

And with the intensity of the pain I was feeling, I could only vow within me that I was going to get back to the mean girl whose name I did not even know.

The girls had left me alone after they were done with thoroughly hitting all parts of my body and the girl’s last words before she left were.

“Know your fucking place and maybe I'll leave you the fuck alone.”

What she doesn't understand is that my place belonged in that house, in their alpha’s bed and mind till I'm the only one he thinks about, till my body is the only one that satisfies him, till he has no use for all the sluts in his Harem again.

That was what I came here to do and I must achieve it at all costs.

Even when she and her minions left my bruised and hurting body on the floor, none of the other girls paid attention to me, they just went back to what they were doing as if they didn't have a hurting girl on the floor.

And that confirmed it for me, the reason why no one lifted a finger to help me was that they didn't care about me, not because they were afraid of standing up to that bitch because they wouldn't have to stand up to her to help me right now since she left already.

Or maybe they still weren't helping me because the girl would pick on them if she should get to know that they helped me.

The girl, Tariba was also nowhere to be found as I dragged my aching body outside to sit on the pavement. I had nothing to help me with the bruises, no oilment, no lotions, no nothing. If I was a wolf of a higher class, I'd have relied on my body to heal by itself but I was nothing but a weak and lowly omega and it was going to take forever for my body to heal by itself.

Growing up, I used to hate myself so much, I hated the fact that I was different, that I was weak and had no strength, that I was an Omega who couldn't even help herself but now, I've come to realize that I had no time for those kinds of frivolities, I had to time to waste on things that I couldn't change.

I was an Omega and nothing was going to change that but I was a maid that works outside the Alpha’s house and there must be something that could change that.

My wolf sensed a presence lurking in the shadows and it launched into a defense mode, thinking it was whoever was the sinister one that had been staring creepily at me getting beaten up by those touts.

I turned around to see Tariba walking cautiously toward me. She was walking carefully as if she doesn't want to make any sound to alert anybody that she was coming to me.

She took her seat beside me when she got to me.

“See,” she gestured towards my bruised body, “that was why I told you now to talk back to her, Reina,” she lowered her voice when she said the name, “is a grade A bitch. She's going to do worse to you if you keep provoking her?”

What's the worse thing a maid can do to another maid other than order her useless minions to beat her up?

“So that's her name, Reina?”

“Yeah, and she rules this maid's quarters, your life will be miserable here if you don't learn to bow to her.”

I almost scoff out a chuckle. Bow to who? A fellow maid? That's not going to happen in centuries to come.

The only person I bow and would always bow for was my Alpha Luca.

“Let me,” she continued and I initially frowned because I did not understand what she meant until she started applying a soothing ointment on my bruises. Tears gathered at the back of my eyes and I had to blink to stop them from falling.

I wasn't used to people doing things for me, the only people that do things for me always wanted things in return, let's give them a blow job or a hand job.

“Thank you,” I croaked out, emotions clogging my voice as she worked on my arms and legs before dragging her eyes to my face. She sighed when she saw the state my face was in. I was sure I look heinous because Reina’s minions took their sweet time working on my face. I mean, one of them even held me up so the other one could rain punches one face. And now, it hurt like hell. I couldn't even talk or breathe properly without feeling the pain.

They should just wait. I was going to make sure I hit ten times harder than they hit me. They won't see me coming, especially Reina, the Queen Bee of the maids.

What a lovely position to hold and flaunt!

“They really messed your face up,” she said as she started to rub the ointment on the bruises and I tried my hardest not to wince at the raw pain.

“Isn't that what her intention was?”

“Reina won't stop hurting you if you don't learn to respect her.”

“And why must I do that?” I asked her, genuinely confused, “who made her the head maid here? Or is she the oldest maid?”

“Oldest?” she finished applying the ointment and she dropped her hand from my face, “she was the newest maid before you guys came here. I think she came here like 4 months ago or something.”

What?

My mouth dropped open and I had to force it closed.

“What?” I sputtered out, “she came here just like four months ago and you guys are allowing her to walk over you like that? What's her deal?”

I asked because I genuinely didn't understand. What made her Queen when she was just a new maid?

“Well, Reina is just as sinister as the devil and she's a schemer, nothing is going to stop her from getting what she wants as long as she sets her mind on getting it.”

“And? It still doesn't make any sense.”

“She also has direct link to the Alpha.”

That definitely got my attention faster than anything ever had.

“She has a direct link to the Alpha?” I asked to make sure I heard her clearly even though it still doesn't make sense that she'd have a direct link to the alpha and she'd be a maid here.

Or maybe she was sent here as some sort of spy by the alpha and that was why the other maids fear and respect her so much.

Yeah, that must be it. That makes perfect sense.

“Yes, her father was a trusted ally of the alpha until he betrayed the alpha a couple of months ago...”

Betrayed? My theory was starting to look shaky already.

“He betrayed the alpha and his wife, whose family was brutally annihilated.”

That sounds right. Fleki didn't sound like someone that could forgive a betrayal by simple banishment. Brutal annihilation sounds like something he’d do.

“But he spared two people from the family...”

And one of them was the bitch, Reina.

“No one knows about the other person that he spare from the family but Reina is the first person and of course, she was first taken into the main house before she was tossed here.”

She was first taken to the main house before she was tossed here? That meant she was discarded, gotten disposed of. That simple fact shouldn't allow her to be ruling all over the maids. If anything, she should be the one at the receiving end of the tantrums and bullies.

“Will you please explain further because I'm really lost here?”

“Well, that was what we believed, that she was tossed here and discarded after the Alpha repeatedly rape her to punish her for being part of the family that betrayed him.”

Yeah, that sounds a lot like what that Alpha was capable of doing.

“But apparently and according to what Reina told us, there was no rape because she enjoyed sleeping with the Alpha.”

I scoffed. Why would anyone enjoy sleeping with the monster that annihilated their family regardless of the reason? But well, Reina didn't look like a normal person.

“And she told us that the reason why she's here is that the Alpha sent her here to give him inside information on what’s going on here.”

I burst into laughter, I just couldn't help it and Tariba just stared at me as if I had lost my mind.

“And you guys believed her? Come on, it's obvious that bitch weaved a lie together to keep you people beneath her and keep her princess status in her delusional mind.”

“No one believed her at first because her story is ridiculous but the Alpha kept sending for her and at times she stays overnight in the main house so obviously, she was doing something in that house, and then she comes back with tales of how the Alpha fucked her roughly all night.”

Bitch. If the Alpha keeps calling for her and keeping her overnight, then they must be fucking but I was sure there was something odd about her, something was not adding up about her and her story and I was sure once I find it out, it'll be a great tool to bring her to her knees.

And I'll be sure to find it out.

I could even use it to blackmail her and get her to get me into the main house.

“So that's why we all fear her and I'll imply you to do the same too. Even Mayla can't treat her anyhow.”

Wow! She was definitely the one I needed to blackmail to get into the main house.

“And she told us that she’ll be moving back into the main house soon and Mayla confirmed it.”

Hmmm?

My jaws dropped as I watched all hopes of getting into the main house go away with the prospect of Reina returning to the main house.

“Why?”

“I don't know,” she shrugged nonchalantly, oblivious to the tsunami brewing in me. She was obviously glad that Reina would be leaving, “I'm just glad she's leaving even though there's a rotation and the best maid here get upgraded to move into the main house but Reina is definitely not the best but she's moving to the main house.”

Wow! My mind was reeling as my thoughts were going haywire. Reina moving into the main house was my only shot at entering the main house.

And there was only one thing I could do to make that happen.

Go into the main house instead of Reina.

No matter what it takes.

********

Luck shined on me the next day.

I wasn't sure how to describe it because I've always pegged myself as unlucky right from when I was given birth to but right now, I was starting to doubt that piece of information about myself.

Maybe I wasn't so unlucky after all.

Mayla had asked all of us to gather in front of the maid quarters and at first, I thought it was going to be about chores or something but nothing prepared me for what she called us for.

“So, the Alpha would be hosting a big dinner for the rich and influential families in the pack in two days and the head of the maids in the main house had requested that we send 6 maids to help them with the preparations.”

Everyone started talking all at once, obviously excited at the prospect of going into the main house. A part of me was happy too but a greater part of me knew there was no way I’d be selected.

I was a new maid. I had no idea how it works here and Mayla wouldn't want to send me inside for the fear of me messing things up.

So when she picked four females and her eyes landed on mine when she wanted to pick the fifth person, my lips parted and nothing prepared me for the words that came out of her mouth.

“Lustre, you'll be going into the main house too.”
