Lillian's perspective.

"You've taken it for decades, so I'm sure you can do this one more time. Be good and take the medicine." I took out another pill from the drawer and handed it to him along with a glass of plain water, continuing, "I know it doesn't taste good, but you have to take it if you don't feel well. You are going to scare the life out of us if you faint again. Mother is going to be disconcerted."

He looked at the pill in my hand and, instead of slapping it away, took it and popped it into his mouth.

Seeing him take the pill, I smiled with relief. It was the first time that I felt that perhaps I could sway him a little.

Pouring him another glass of warm water, I said with a smile, "The doctor also advised you to drink more water."

He accepted the glass and took a sip, asking with a hint of annoyance, "What are you grinning at?"
