We didn't speak for most of the car journey there, I think both of us were just trying to wrap our heads around what just happened. There were so many things swirling around my head, who was it that told the police that we know more? Was that a trap or some kind of test from Markus? But I saw the badges the guys were wearing, they were definitely police officers. Austin didn't fool that police officer back there, that's why he ended up giving me his card. I didn't want to show Austin that because I know he'd tell me to throw it away, but a part of me wanted to keep it just in case. I promised Austin that somehow I would figure out how to get him out of this, maybe that police guy is the way forward. We soon pull up at a huge mansion, I thought the one he held the party in was grand, but it did not compare to this. Why didn't he just hold that gathering here? Actually, with what happened that night I guess he wouldn't want all the mess. Or for the police to trace it back to him."Than
The first half of the car ride was silent, I couldn't believe how Austin stood up to Markus. Whenever he talks about Markus, he tells me how you can never talk back to him. Apparently, he doesn't take it too kindly and will retaliate in some sinister way. I was hoping that wouldn't happen, but I couldn't help but feel grateful for Austin."Thank you" I say looking over at him slightly as I spoke. "I know that must have been terrifying to talk back to Markus like that, but you protected me from being forced to also work for him" I smile where he shakes his head, but does look over at me."You really don't have to thank me Payton, you shouldn't be put in a situation where he would be offering you a job. This is my fault" he says lopping back to him feeling sorry for himself. "But when it comes to you, I would do anything to keep you safe" he says looking over at me with a serious face, before he turns back to look at the road."Would have Markus sent the police around to test if we woul
Austin needed to get out of the house to try and calm himself down, what Roman said to him just angered him in more ways than he could have imagined. Austin only wants what is best for Payton, everything he is doing is to protect her from Markus and anyone affiliated with him. But Roman calling the police has put that on record, if Markus was to look he’d see that police went around their house to talk. What could Markus think if he saw that?Roman telling him Payton was his girlfriend also bothered him, yes he knows they’re together and have been for years, but he can’t shake the feelings he has for Payton. He has liked her ever since they met back in school, before Roman and Payton ever knew each other. He told Roman the feelings he was having back then and Roman said he needed to back off, he had eyes for Payton first and there was no way Austin was going to come in and take his potential girlfriend. A few weeks later, Payton and Roman began dating where Austin had to just deal wit
The car ride was silent which was becoming a running theme lately, my head was just worrying and going over what could happen while but also after, I meet with this police officer. He sounded like he already knew somehow we were involved with Markus, so maybe I won’t have to tell him much. I just needed to ensure that Austin was kept out of this, he didn’t know what he was getting himself into until it was too late. Perhaps after this is all over, he can start getting back to the way he was before this all started. We were soon turning the corner to where my work was located, which only caused the nerves I was feeling to just grow and grow. I take a deep breath in before putting a smile on my face, I can’t let Austin see how nervous I am or he’ll ask me what’s really going on.“Are you sure you want to do this, you can wait until tomorrow” Austin says which tells me I didn’t do a good job at hiding this, probably why I never got into acting. “If you’re worried I can come in with you”
We waited around an hour until another officer joined us, he was also in normal clothes as he walked through the back door. I was worried he wasn’t a police officer at first, but he pulled out his badge that definitely calmed my nerves slightly. Austin rang while we were waiting, my phone was on silent though so I didn’t pick up. He left a message saying he hoped I was okay, I quickly sent one back telling him I was absolutely fine but my boss was taking his time.“Does Austin know you’re doing this?” The first officer asks whilst the second was sorting all the papers out, which was also taking so long too!“No, he thinks I’m talking to my boss about getting some time off due to this” I say pointing at my face, before I look down with a sigh. “Austin will act tough and pretend none of this scares him, but he’s terrified at what Markus could do. If he found out I was meeting with you, he’d tell me how dangerous this was and if Markus found out he’d kill us” I say still looking down at
I walk out of the back door of my work, the fresh air making a smile form on my lips. When travelling here, all I could think about was how terrified I was to have this meeting with Jacob and the other man. But now I have and I kind of know what’s happening, I felt more confident that in the end Austin would be free from Markus. But I also knew how dangerous this was, if Markus does find out what I’m doing who knows what he’ll do?!I pull my phone out where I see all the missed calls from Austin, I did feel my phone going off in my bag but I couldn’t just pull my phone out in the middle of that meeting. I hope he wasn’t too annoyed or worried. I click on his name whilst putting the phone to my ear, it only rings twice before his worried voice comes through.“Finally you’ve called, are you okay?” He asks worriedly, I smile thankful that he wasn’t annoyed that I never rang him earlier.“Yeah I’m okay, sorry it took so long my boss can talk for England!” I laugh thinking of an excuse on
It was later in the day, Austin was in the kitchen cooking dinner while I was slowly starting to fix the house. I say slowly as my arms were still hurting, but I refused to stay in this house if it looked as though a tornado had gone through it. I walk over to the mantle piece, picking up the broken photo of Roman, Austin and me. It was taken around two years ago, we had just gone on a holiday up north and the weather was so nice. It was the first day Austin and I actually got along, which is why a photo was taken. With a tiny sigh, I take the photo out of the broken picture frame which goes in the bin. Before I could dwell more on the past, my phone that was sat on the counter makes a text noise. As Austin was closer, he picks it up thankfully, only able to see the name.“A text from Jacob” he tells me which instantly makes my eyes grow wide, I place the photo back down before making my way over to Austin. “Who’s Jacob?” He asks as he hands me over the phone, while I click on the mes
Jacob and I spoke for a few hours, at first it was hard to decode what he was trying to say without actually saying it. But after awhile, it became easy and I feel like we got somewhere. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still terrified that Markus might find out where I don’t even want to imagine what he’d do, but I’m less alarmed than I was before I spoke to Jacob today. He told me to keep my head down and focus on staying alive, at first I thought he was being dramatic but I knew how Markus was. He said it was good I hadn’t been around Markus much, apparently, he’s on this destructive rampage right now. This only worried me due to Austin being around him constantly, but I knew how important Austin was for Markus’s business so he couldn’t do anything that bad to him. I tried to make him explain to me what he meant by destructive rampage, but he told me as I have to be around Markus a lot he didn’t want to scare him. But him telling me that alone, only scared me more!Just before he left he ga
