Chapter 33
Blake’s POV
After leaving Clarissa in her room, Blake went to his own. He paced back and forth. His emotions were a mess.
She was such an enchantress! Memories of them playing and sneaking off into the forest assaulted him. He worked so hard to push them back for so long, until the day he told Blake to capture her and bring her to his people.
He sighed and plopped down on his bed. What was he going to do? What would he do with her if he allowed his benefactor to keep Clarissa? What did he want with her?
After everything that Blake had been through, he asked himself why he still cared. The sight of her sitting in the garden swam before him, and he groaned. She was so beautiful

Clarissa Once in the solitude of her room, Clarissa slammed her bedroom door. Her father's death and the purple sage came back to her with a vengeance. She fell on her bed, sobbing with an unbearably aching heart. Where was Stefan when she needed him? How was she supposed to save her mother without him? Stefan’s POV After discovering where the stranger took Clarissa, Stefan forced his horse into a full-speed gallop the entire way and made it to the Olc monastery outskirts before the sun went down that day. As he entered town, the sun was setting. He slid adeptly from his horse in the center of the crowded huts outside the gates. If there were that many people living outside the walls, he could imagine how populated it was inside the gates. How long would it take to find Clarissa? He had to decide where to start looking for her. If she was still here, she could be outside the gates. Looking around, he quickly determined how unlikely that was. Clarissa Clarissa and Blake entered the dining room through gigantic oak doors as Blake explained the Old King’s side of the great war. There were always two sides to a story, and the losing side was rarely shared. The dining room was a large ballroom half-filled with mahogany chairs and tables, while the other half was open floor space. Black table covers were set with red plates and silverware. Red wine filled crystal glasses. The walls were bare except for white candles on little golden plates extending from the wall. Blake At first, Blake was surprised how open Righ was with him because Blake had not sworn an oath of fealty. But the king was living in exile, which meant that his conversation partners were limited. If Blake were in Righ’s shoes, he would be grateful to have someone to talk to who wasn’t magically bound to him. It was most likely why Righ did not force him into an oath in the first place. Clarissa Clarissa stared in shock at the giant mirror. The visage before her was like nothing she had ever seen before. His skin was bright red with black spots. Horns spiraled up from his forehead. Sharp canines poked out from below his top lip as he smiled at them. His spotted brown hair was wild and unkempt. It reminded her of a mane. He looked powerful and giant as he hovered over them. Clarissa The food was Scrumptious, and the wine delicious. The monks ate quietly with an occasional low murmur to someone sitting around them. They spoke about what they learned or did that day. Clarissa Clarissa held onto Blake’s arm tightly. She was so glad that he was here for the first time that she drank. Because she did not think that she could walk straight if she did not have him to lean on. He was heading somewhere, and she was sure he told her where more than once. But she could not remember.
