Chapter 005: Colors (4)

Black's POV

Currently, I'm facing a major problem.

On my way to school, I spotted somebody with colors, crouching on all fours as he looked like he was looking for something. Unfortunately, it was that guy from my class, White Reinheit.

I have to pass through, but he'll definitely see me. I don't know any other routes to school, and it was bad enough that I cut classes once. I can't skip again.

I begrudgingly approached him. "What're you looking for?" I asked.

He looked up at me with tears in his eyes. "I lost my necklace." He replied as he wiped his tears and sniffled.

"Your necklace? What does it look like?"

"It has a silver chain and a cross."

"And you lost it around here?"

He nodded his head as he continued looking.

I sighed loudly as I crouched down and started to search for it too. "It'll be easier if we look for it together." I said. "Don't get me wrong. I'm just doing this because I needed to pass by here."

All White did was nod his head, but I could tell he was happy that I was helping him. If he's this desperate to find that necklace, desperate enough to cry for it, then it must be something really important to him. If I don't help him now, then it would leave a bad taste in my mouth.

An hour passed, but we atill couldn't find it. We traced back White's steps until we got to this small park. He said he stopped by this park earlier just because he left his house too early. If we still don't find it here, then that just means he lost it on the train while on his way to school. If that were the case, then there's now way we're getting it back.

"You go search there." I said as I pointed near the drinking fountain. "I'll search around here."

"I'm sorry for dragging you into this, Black." White replied. "That necklace means a lot to me, so I'm very thankful you're helping me find it."

I couldn't help but crack a smile. "Yeah. Let's hope we find it."

After around half an hour of searching, I spotted something glistening at the corner or my eye. I walked towards and noticed a necklace on the ground. It definitely had a cross, but I couldn't see its colors.

I mean, this is definitely it, right? It's impossible for another person to have coincidentally lost their necklace that just so happened to look like White's.

Just in case I was wrong, I didn't immediately tell him. Instead, I walked over to White and took the necklace out. Since I could see colors around him, I could check what color the necklace was.

I brought the necklace close enough to him, and there it was. A shiny, silver color. I tapped on White's back and dangled it in front of him. "Found it." I said with a smirk on my face.

White instantly stood up and then pulled me into a tight hug. "Thank you so much, Black!" He exclaimed.

I would've felt awful pushing him back at this point, so I hesitantly patted his back. 'Yeah, yeah." I replied. "No problem."

After he calmed down, he got pretty embarassed. Well, I would be too. I can't even begin to imagine getting emotional with someone I barely know.

"Thanks again for helping me find my necklace, Black." White said as he put his necklace in his pocket.

"Why don't you wear it?" I asked. "It'll be harder to lose if you just wear it around your neck."

"Ah, well, I just don't think it's the right time."

"The right time? What are you talking about?"

He chuckled. "I just don't think it matches with my clothes."

He says that, but his expression earlier was weirdly sorrowful. He must have his reasons, and it probably isn't something I should pry into. Just then, he set his boundaries, so there's no reason for me to get involved any further.

I sighed and looked in front of me, and to my surprise, Crimson was staring at me a hilarious expression on his face. It was a 'What the hell are you doing here?' kind of face.

"Well, since you already found your necklace, I'll get going." I said as I stood up.

"Already?" He asked. "We should just go to school together."

"My friend's waiting for me over there." I pointed at Crimson, who was sitting down and eating some food he bought from the convenience store.

White's face became pale, then he smiled nervously. "I guess I'll see you at school then."

After we parted ways, I immediately went to Crimson and sat down next to him. "What're you doing here?" I asked.

"That's my line." He replied as he offered some store-bought bread that was in the paper bag next to him. "I didn't expect you to make another friend. I thought you wanted to be left alone."

"He's not my friend." I took some of the bread and started eating it. "Things just happened and we ended up together."

He laughed. "And why aren't you at school?"

"I could ask you the same thing."

"I just woke up late." He finished eating and stood up. "Do you wanna come to my house?" He asked as he stretched his arms. "I don't really feel like going to school anymore."

"Weren't you the one who told me not to cut my classes yesterday?"

"That was then, and this is now. Come on. It'll be fun."

I eventually agreed. To be honest, it's not that I don't trust Crimson. Well, it kinda is, but I mean it's just weird for him to just invite me to his house like this. Just like my situation with White, we barely know each other. Don't they have any sense of danger?

Surprisingly, Crimson's house was just really near that park. It was a simple apartment complex. We opened the door to his apartment, when suddenly, something jumped towards me.

We were already inside, so I didn't make too much noise, but I ended up lying on the ground with something heavy on my chest. I opened my eyes and saw a white cat with blue eyes sitting on my chest.

It meowed, then Crimson picked it up. "Sorry for that." He said as he offered his hand to help me. "She gets like that when there's an unfamiliar face."

"It's fine." I replied as I took his hand. "What's her name?"

"Shiro."

The moment Crimson mentioned her name, Shiro meowed again. She rubbed her nose on Crimson's cheek, and with a soft smile on his face, Crimson rubbed her chin.

"That's unexpected." I commented. "I never expected you to make that kind of expression."

Crimson flinched and placed Shiro around his neck. "What's wrong with it?" He asked with a shy expression on his face.

"Nothing. I was just surprised."

He groaned. "Just wait in the kitchen for a bit."

"Ah, sure."

While he went back to his room, I took it upon myself to look around. The apartment itself wasn't small, but it wasn't big either. It seemed like the perfect size for somebody that lived alone.

There were no pictures of his family on his shelf. In fact, the shelf was practically empty except for a few manga and comics.

There was literally nothing around here.

Suddenly, I could feel a scratching on my leg. I looked down and saw Shiro. She meowed at me, then ran away. I thought she probably just wanted to play, so I ignored her, but then a few seconds later, she did the same thing.

I followed her after she ran away, and when we got to the hallway, she turned around to look at me, as if checking if I was following her. When she saw me, she ran into one of the rooms.

Again, I followed her. The door was slightly ajar, and when I reached for the handle to open it fully, I could hear sniffling inside the room.

I hesitated for a bit, then opened the door. Inside the room was Crimson, holding what seemed to be a picture. He saw me and immediately hid the picture behind his back.

"What're you doing here?" He asked.

"Uh, Shiro wanted me to follow her and led me here."

"Right. My bad. I forgot you were waiting there." He placed the picture inside one of the cabinets and passed me, tailing behind him was Shiro. "Let's go."

The lights were dimmed when I opened the door, but I saw the expression on Crimson's face. When he passed me earlier, I could've sworn his eyes were a little red, like he just finished crying. That just means that sniffling that I heard earlier was real, and it had something to do with that picture he hid.

Well, even if that's the case, it has nothing to do with me.
