Sam tried to act cool and brush off the fact that he knew that Oli and Sally knew Maya and the fact that until a day ago, she was living at Oli’s mansion, which Sam recklessly sneaked in to meet Sally that day.
It was one of the things that he was really proud of doing. Sam looked at Pedro with a smile and casually replied, “And? Are you still looking for her? I mean, you made it impossible for her to leave Russia anyway.”
“I’ll find her.” Pedro replied, “And this time, I’ll admit my feelings and take her as far away from this mess as possible.”
Sam scoffed. With a mocking tone he responded, “You know how crazy Stephanie is. You know she won’t let that happen. Besides, why are you even telling me this? I have to leave and fix the mess at the branch―”
“Because I know you know where she is- or at least, where she was.”
“And what of it? Are you forcing me to tell
“I know, but that won’t happen again.” Alexander was quite skeptical. He asked before ending the call, “Besides, why are you getting so worked up? I mean, I guessed you’d want me to get there as soon as possible so you could leave that cold country you so despised?”“I uh…” Sam stuttered, “I’m starting to like the cold, I suppose.” It was a lie and he knew it but there was no way he would admit it.“The cold or the girls?” Alexander once more with a knowing tone.Sam chucked as he glanced at Sally from outside and thought to himself, just a girl. Some girl. But he dared not to say anything, especially to Alexander. Sam could already guess how much Alexander would tease him if he did say such a corny thing.Years of womanizing, and yet there he was, secretly in love with the most headstrong and stubborn woman he ever met, Sally. In love? That was st
“Alexander’s still clueless that Maya is here,” Sam answered in a calm tone. He released a helpless sigh before he continued, “He can’t know. Alexander’s simply going here to Russia to visit the branch here and take over some major decisions happening.”Sam was really getting upset about this entire situation. He was hiding something from his best friend because he thought it was the right thing to do. A part of him was sure that if Alexander knew, he would have gotten into the earliest flight to Russia.Yes, it was so weird to think that a block of wood in the name of Alexander was going to do. If Sam thought of such a thing years ago, he would not believe and would curse the person who would tell that to him.But wasn’t the proof already the person he was talking to?The Mayers was the best family for businessmen, especially those who wanted to go to the top very soon. That was because whoever their spoile
Maya was frozen. A part of her was still unable to accept what Stephanie had said. She was still in denial of what she had just heard. Maya remained quiet as she sat still across Stephanie.“Maya, listen to me, your parents might be dead, but surely, you have family remaining. Don’t you want to find them? The old woman who gave you up at the front porch of the orphanage- all clips that could lead me to who she might be were all gone and deleted. I believe that whoever that woman was is still alive up to this day since security regarding it and all information were classified. I couldn’t get my hands on it even I tried. And I tried.” Stephanie continued to explain while looking at Maya as if she took pity on her.Pity? Maya wanted to laugh. She felt like she was a fool for even talking to Stephanie.Maya scoffed and asked with unmasked disdain, “What do you want to do? I just spent the rest of my life searching for my
Maya frowned further. Her displease was increasing further as she listened to Stephanie. A part of her wanted to stop this nonsense but, she fought hard. She knew that she needed to know more.“That’s how easy it is to disown a daughter or a son. That’s just how it goes but in the end… they’re still your family. You have nothing and no one else without them,” Stephanie continued as she was feeling bad for Maya.“I have my friends,” Maya pointed out through gritted teeth.“Lucky for you then,” Stephanie replied as she nodded in understanding. She then cleared her throat and changed the topic, and she said, “Well, I gave you all the information I have about your parents, whether you look for your grandparents or not is none of the business, but you have to uphold the end of your bargain, you will leave Russia and settle at some faraway place never to be seen by Alexander and Pedro.&rdq
Sam glanced behind her and said, “I brought some alcohol, but it seems like you beat me to it.”Stephanie frowned and immediately tried to hide it from Sam.Sam smirked and suddenly grabbed the bottle himself. He looked at her smugly before he poured a glass for him.“You don’t need to hide it. If Pedro finds it, just blame it on me,” he said with assurance.Sam did not like Stephanie cause of her recent actions with Alexander and Maya, but it did not mean he would be hostile to her all the time.“Why are you here?” Stephanie questioned while eying him with suspicion. “And who told you to get my drink?“I figured you’d be drinking home alone again,” Sam snickered. He then added, “Isn’t it better to have some a company? I thought you could use some.”Well, more likely, he was there to make sure she would not be doing more stupid things that they won&rsq
Pedro was really surprised. Thankfully he got a hold of himself immediately. So he tried his best to hide it and kept calm.He appeared calm and contemplating whatever the old woman was saying, while she looked at him.Pedro clenched his fist under the table. Mrs. Simons was just sitting across him and he knew that he needed to be careful. He also knew she was a dangerous and powerful old woman that he couldn’t underestimate.“I just bought it days ago.” Mrs. Simons was looking at him as she continued, “I’m glad you liked what I did in the place. So, tell me, how much do you know?”Pedro took a deep breath and played it cool. He hummed for a moment as if thinking before he replied, “I know about your dead niece, Kate Simons, and about the baby you gave at the orphanage the same day, Maya.”Enthralled by it all, Mrs. Simons laughed, “I really hated my brother for picking a name for his dau
Pedro was surprised. He then frowned with confusion and started asking, “France? What do you mean France? Maya can’t leave Russia, and I made sure-“Mrs. Simons shook her head. Her eyes coldly glinted as she looked at Pedro and asked, “You made sure? That was very kind of you. I bet Maya wanted to Russia, right??”“That… Well…” Pedro did not know how to answer that. Recalling everything that happened from the time he intercepted her in the US airport, canceling her flight there and scamming her to ride a jet under Pete’s name, and then banning her from leaving Russia. None of that was what Maya wanted.Mrs. Simons remained quiet and looked at Pedro as if accusing. It was like the old woman was telling him that he was a bad person, and he made Maya do things against her will. There was silence, and Pedro was the one who felt like being burned from the guilt.Mrs. Simons waved her hand and
Everything that night came rushing into Karin’s head. She gritted her teeth in annoyance as she thought, I will not let my hard works go to waste! After all those years! Never! Maya will never be recognized as a Simon. I won’t let it happen. She then turned her back around and said to Pedro before she left, “You and your sister, Stephanie, have been quite nosy lately. Should I go after her since she’s your weakness?”“Don’t you dare involve my sister here!” Pedro yelled as he stood up. He added said, “Stephanie has nothing to do with this.”“I won’t. Not yet.” Mrs. Simons responded with as smirk, “I’ll need her to cause some trouble first.”Pedro did not understand what she had just said, but he decided to let it go.He immediately texted Sam to look after Stephanie as she used Sally’s identity as bait. Then, he did something he neve
