Chapter 39: A Trust Fall

Leah looked at me for a moment, surprise etched on her face. I watched as she fidgeted nervously on the couch. Her eyes darted around the room, avoiding mine. I was right, something was definitely off with her. It was hard to miss, when she acted like someone was after her and they were going to catch her any moment from now.

It always seemed like she was carrying a heavy burden on her shoulders. It bothered me that she didn't trust me enough to confide in me. I almost expected her to do what she did best: run away from me.

I was glad she didn't. It meant we could fix it, whatever IT was.

I decided to take matters into my own hands and take the first step into complete trust between us. I pulled us both into a sitting position and looked into her eyes.

"Ever since we met you've seemed… troubled." I thought back to each of our dates. "Almost like you refuse to let yourself be truly happy with me."

She looked at me, her eyes searching mine. I could tell she was struggling
