One Hundred and Eleven

Asher’s POV

Staring at May, the woman I had managed to push away through my own foolishness, was like looking at a life I had almost let slip through my fingers. We were technically still married, but only because I hadn't found the courage… or perhaps the right moment… to sign the divorce papers.

Thank God I didn’t, because now, I was able to claim that we were still married. Although, her presence in my office was both a reminder of my failures and the past we shared together I wasn't sure how to steer.

"What do I owe the pleasure of this unexpected visit?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.

May sighed, the weight of the moment pressing down on her. "I'm here because for some reason, Gary told me I had to work with you on the Henderson project. I'll be working closely with you for some time," she explained, her tone suggesting that this arrangement was less than ideal for her.
