Chapter 22: She Was With You

The conversation had taken a wrong turn. He was not talking about human dishes; he was referring to a different type of food, vampire food. And he confirmed her thoughts by adding.

“The same goes with blood. I like it salty with a hint of spice.”

She wanted him to stop talking. At the same time, she wanted him to never stop. He made her nearly wonder if blood really tasted good, despite her being a hunter. Her rationality flew out of the window. The environment must be doing tricks on her.

Suddenly, her hands felt so sweaty. Since one was on his arm, he might feel the evaporating heat through his sleeve. Her nerves went stiff with tension, she took them off of his arm to hide it.

Around them, tree branches lowered, shading them from view, as though they were alive.

“What’s wrong?” he rasped.

“No–nothing,” she stuttered, moving away.

“Wrong answer…”
