Chapter 6

Alex already has a girlfriend." I said short while walking towards class while Jen followed me from behind.

"Oh?Who's his girlfriend?Ugh, it must be nice to have a boyfriend like Alex. He treats you-his sister, like that.

Especially his girlfriend."

My steps stopped suddenly when I heard Jen's words.

What would he say if he found out I was Alex's girlfriend. "Method?" Jenna stopped beside me.

"Have you found a dress for Prom yet?" Prom was the only topic that could distract Jen.

"Not yet! How about we go find a dress together? Oh! Have you got your prom date yet?" Jen started talking excitedly, for a moment I regretted changing the subject.

"I-no, I don't think I'm going to the prom." My reply made Jen's blue eyes pop, her mouth slightly agape upon hearing me.

"You! Caroline Brennan, you have to come. Full period. I'll make sure you go to the prom even if I have to drag you. And from this second on I'll be the one to find you a prom date." She said in a half squeal making some of the kids in the hall turn to look at us because of her screams. With a red face because of embarrassment I pulled Jen's hand to class.

"I'm not going to the prom." I hissed at her. We both sat on our respective benches. Jen pulled her chair closer to me.

"Why?" She asked half whining, sometimes she can be very annoying.

"Because ... I don't want to." I cringe at the thought of

Prom, with the gown, the high heels, the make up, and the Prom date. I'm also not sure I can get a partner at this time, surely everyone already has their own partner.

"Are you sure you're going to miss it?" Jen asked in a tone that sounded disappointed.

"Yes! And please, don't bother talking me out of it." I grumbled.

Jen snorted then nodded at me, she knew nothing could change my decision right now. Even though her eyes looked at me stubbornly but in the end she gave up too, "But you have to take me to find my dress. Today."

"Okay, okay ... " Besides that means Jen can take me home as well.

Jen's car drives through the fairly busy downtown streets, we've stopped at several clothing boutiques and so far nothing has caught her eye ... And even if there were, they were way too expensive.

She parked her car near an expensive boutique, then asked me to go inside to have a look. Rows of dresses of various colors and models ranging from chiffon, silk, or silk hung elegantly on the shelves.

Jen's eyes immediately lit up when she saw the row of dresses. She walked choosing one by one with the patience I didn't have. I, who wasn't too enthusiastic at all, decided to sit on a moss green sofa in the corner of the room. My gaze explored the luxurious interior of this boutique until the corner of my eye caught someone approaching me.

"Caroline?" a feminine voice greeted me. A black bobbed haired woman with a pretty face greeted me, her dark gray eyes looking at me with both surprise and doubt. She stopped for a moment and sniffed the air around her, then her eyes widened.

"Annelise." I said in the same shocked voice. Annelise is one of Alex's classmates, I think she is currently studying in another city. I suddenly remembered ... She was one of the Werewolves that Alex mentioned.

"Alex ... " She muttered to herself, "Alex tagged you?" She whispered with a face half horrified and surprised. My body froze when I heard his question, how did she know it?

"Alex marked his own sister?" She asked in disbelief. My stomach churns when I hear Annelise's words because she's right, right now I'm still Alex's little sister.

Suddenly a man walked up to Annelise, I didn't recognize him, he had blond curly hair and was very tall.

"Anne-" He followed Annelise's gaze then stopped suddenly. Her gaze fixated on me, her nose sniffing at me the same way Annelise had before. "Alex-Alpha already has a mate?" he asked with a frown.

Now I'm looking at two people standing looking at me as if two new heads were growing from my neck. The faces of the two of them had expressions to match, between confusion and doubt.

"Regan, this is Caroline ... she's, um, Alex's sister?" Annelise introduced me to the boy in front of me named Regan. I nodded and smiled nervously at him.

"Oh! Caroline! I remember now .. "

I jumped slightly from my seat at Regan's loud scream.

"But why does Alex smell ... " He tilted his head slightly still observing me with a curious expression.

"Alex ticked it off. I guess." Answered Annelise, her voice not too sure. Now Regan's eyes were dilated, they looked like they were about to pop out of his head.

"Whoa! Alpha marked his own sister?!" Like Annelise, Regan's words managed to stab right into my heart as well as my conscience. The three of us stared at each other awkwardly as I didn't answer their question. I wish the floor beneath me would open up and swallow me alive this very moment.

After a few awkward moments the two of them said goodbye with the promise of lunch. After making sure that Annelise and Regan were really gone, I took my cell phone from my jeans pocket and texted Alex to ask if he would be home when I got home.

Jen had just come out of the dressing room in the dress she had tried on. With a big smile she turned several times until the hem of the white dress she was wearing spun around her. "How? You like it?" he asked.

I nodded and raised my thumbs up at her.

"Who approached you earlier?" Jen asked while checking the price tag on the hem of the dress, her mouth agape for a moment followed by a look of disappointment on her face.

"Alex's friends." I said briefly. "Is the dress too expensive?"

Jen nodded slowly while looking at her silhouette in the large mirror, finally with unsteady steps she returned to the locker room. My attention shifted to the vibrating cellphone in my hand, Alex's name appeared on the flashing screen.

"Cara? What's wrong? Where are you?" I can hear a hint of worry in his voice.

"Geez. I just wanted to ask if you'd be dropping by the house later." I replied, when I looked up I could see my smiling face reflected in the mirror. Even just hearing Alex's voice can make me smile ...

"Of course. I'm going to sleep at home today. What's wrong?"

"There isn't anything." I replied, trying to wipe the stupid smile off my face.

"Caroline ... "

I closed my eyes for a moment. Alex can almost always tell when I'm lying, so I might as well be honest. "Alex, what is Alpha?"

Alex was silent for a moment before answering me,

"Where did you hear it?" his voice sounded a little angry. My eyes caught Jen coming out of the locker room then waving at me to follow her.

"Alex I have to go. We'll continue later, okay?"

"How-" I hung up before Alex could finish his sentence. I put my cell phone into my jeans pocket and walked over to Jen who was standing waiting for me.

"Not so buy?" I asked her

"The price is above my budget. Let's go to the next store." She replied while embracing my shoulder.

Jen dropped me off in front of the house just before dinner, the smell of cooking filling the room as I walked into the kitchen. The sound of laughter that had previously been heard stopped suddenly. Mum, Dad, Alex and Jake were sitting around the dinner table.

"Hi." I muttered to them then sat down between Alex and Jake

"Hey, Cara-bear" Jake smiled broadly at me then his hand patted my back quite hard. Cara-bear was my nickname as a child because I always carried a teddy bear with me everywhere.

"Ow! Jake!" I protested at him.

Alex growled angrily at Jake, both surprising and awkward. It felt weird to remember that the people around me were ... werewolves, but after a while we went back to talking and laughing while enjoying our dinner I forgot about it.

Dinner was dominated by Mum, as usual. She asked about the results of the dress hunt with Jen that afternoon.

"So who's going to be Cara's prom?" Jake suddenly asked next to me. It seems like everyone's been really interested in asking me about Prom lately. I took a deep breath before answering.

"I'm not going to the prom, Jakie." I said emphasizing Jakie's words, Jake always hated him.

"Cara-bear, don't call me by that name." He said with a sullen face. "Did Alex stop you?" he asked as he devoured the grilled chicken pieces in big bites.

"Of course not. I really don't want to come. So don't ask any more questions, okay."

"Why?" now Alex's annoying voice joined in.

"Because, Alex, it's none of your business." I replied while rolling my eyes. Dad and Mum looked at us together.

"Cara, prom is only once, too bad you didn't come." Now Mum is pushing me. "Besides I want to see you wear a dress once in a while, I'll help you find a dress that fits." She added with an excited face.

Imagining it makes me want to groan. I know very well what Mum's taste is, definitely a dress that's fluffy with lots of lace and bows. "No thanks." I answered ASAP.

"You're going to the prom, Cara."
