Chapter One hundred and eight (Saraya's POV) Present Time

"I know.,." Bertulf interrupted the girl. "I don't know if you can ever find it in your heart to forgive my helplessness but I promise you, if you accept me, I will spend the rest of my life dulling the memory. And he will pay with his life for every blow he dealt you."

"What do you mean to accept you…" she said and raised her face. She let out a soundless gasp and Bertulf, in reflex, drew back from her and lowered his gaze. The tension in the air was palpable as the girl silently studied the Alpha.

I released the breath, I didn't know I was holding when she raised her two bloodied hands to frame his face and made him look into her eyes. "Bertulf…" she called in an affectionate tone.

"Yes?" he answered in a deep, hesitant voice.

"They did this to you…" she said and fresh tears spilt down her face. Bertulf nodded.

"I didn't want you to see me like this. I was ashamed…" he said in almost a whisper. The girl jerked up and wrapped her arms around his neck.
