Chapter Thirty-one (Dane’s POV) Decades before…

I let out a string of expletives and darted my gaze about in the blasted rain but she was nowhere in sight. I shut my eyes and inhaled deeply. Wisps of her floral scent filtered into my nostril despite the rain. And since the guardian was already hovering and knew where I was, I shut my eyes and growled, "Find your mate!"

I felt my beast surface and took over. He howled loudly and stormed down to the eastern side of the grounds. Now, I just needed to get to her first before they got to me.

I saw her running about a quarter of a mile away, she looked back, saw me, let out a loud shriek and then tripped. I scooped her up, summoned my pegasus, regressed and straddled it. I need not tell him where I wanted to go, and within seconds we were in the air and behind the clouds. It was one hell of a race and I was not prepared to be caught. Saraya clung to me, shaking in fear. I buried my face in the nook of her neck and whispered, "Don't be scared of me. I would rather slit my own throat th
